Foz do Igua\u00e7u is about to experience an unprecedented experience in Brazil in relation to economic development and generation of jobs and income. The municipality, located in the west of Paran\u00e1, is the first to regulate the installation of duty-free stores after the publication of Normative Instruction No. 1,799 of the Federal Revenue, of March 2018, which deals with the possibility of opening these establishments in 32 twin cities of land border in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After a long period of studies, discussions and search for knowledge, the Council for Economic and Social Development of Foz do Igua\u00e7u (Codefoz), which headed the entire process, compiled the deliberations of entities such as the Commercial and Business Association (ACIFI), the Employers' Union of Retail Commerce (Sindilojas) and Municipal Tourism Council (Comtur), handing over the demands of these entities to Mayor Chico Brasileiro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
About a week later, on August 15, Decree No. 26,609\/2018 was published, which regulates the installation of duty-free stores in Foz do Igua\u00e7u. The regulations contain municipal rules for the activities of so-called duty-free shops, including two of the main suggestions highlighted by the entities involved in this issue: the possibility of installing shopping centers throughout the city and their opening hours, from 8 am to 10 pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The president of Codefoz, Mario Camargo, highlights Foz do Igua\u00e7u's pioneering spirit in carrying out a study on the impact of selling national products in duty-free stores. \u201cFoz is also the largest and one of the first to authorize the implementation of duty-free stores. The important thing is that we completed an entire fundamental process until reaching the final deliberation\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
From now on, Codefoz must monitor the economic consequences after the installation of duty-free shops, so that there is no imbalance in the economy, as duty-free shops are authorized to sell both imported and nationalized products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On a recent visit to the city, senator Ana Am\u00e9lia Lemos stated: \u201cFoz do Igua\u00e7u had doubts about the sale of national products in duty-free stores, but the debate progressed. With a purchase limit of US$300 and different taxation for national and imported goods, there will be no unfair competition.\u201d The parliamentarian was the rapporteur in the Senate of Bill 12,723\/2012, which authorized the installation of duty-free stores in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
